Achilles Operation- No Movement upwards

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Jan 02, 2002 8:03 am

Had an operation for severly ruptured achilles after tripping off a kerb whilst running, however the repair was not done until about 9mths after the split as it wasnt noticed by any doctors or pysio, they removed a large part of the tendon for regrowth a year ago and I was in plaster for three months with toe pointed. About 4 mths ago had another op to lengthen the tendon as it was too tight first time round, now after the second op im having pain on inside and outside of ankle joint I can point my toes no problem but cant lift the foot off the floor and cannot bend ankle to walk normally it seams to stop with no flexibillty upwards the MRI does show some fluid in the joint - will this go eventually and what can be done to get joint moving again,

The time in the cast probably caused your muscles to weaken severely and your joint to become very stiff. The recovery time may be lengthy but physical therapy with a therapist and on your own is the best way to strengthen your muscles and get the range of motion in your ankle back. Have a nice day and please write back if you have any further questions.
