achilles tendonitisI have recetly (6 months) taken up running and have gradually increased my mileage and speed. In the last 2 weeks, I have had pain in the achilles area when I am running. Stretching doesn't seem to be painful. I notice the pain when my weight is on the ball of my foot. I also play tennis and it is painful doing that as well. How long will this take to heal and when can I start running again? I did use some of the eliptical trainers at the gym today and it seemed fine.

Re: achilles tendonitisStetching before and especially after running and exercising is a key to preventing and relievng heel pain. Also, strecthing before you get out of bed in the morning is important is decreasing the recovery time. If the pain returns when you start to run again, you should see a podiatrist to be accurately diagnosed and properly treated. Have a nice day and please write back if you have any further questions.
