Adhesions or spurs?

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Aug 30, 2001 12:17 pm

Last October, as part of some reconstructive foot surgery, I had a heel slide which was anchored with a screw. A small incision in the bottom and back of my heel was made for this. In March, as part of another surgery, the incision was re-opened to remove the screw as it had apparently begun to ease out. Now, if I step on that area for more than a few seconds, like in a shower or in sandals, I feel alot of pain. The area feels hard and can be painful too if I have my foot massaged. I also feel it more if I have been walking long and the heel cord tightens. I am not sure whether it is an adhesion from the incision or a spur given what the heel went through. How can I tell and what to do? Tx

An x-ray will show if there are any problems with the heel bone. It may also just be scar tissue at the incision site causing pain. If this is the case, cortisone or alcohol injections can be performed to reduce some of the scar tissue and hopefully relieve your pain.
