early stage of tendonitis

Post a new topicby michaelmike on Thu Jul 03, 2008 6:28 pm

Fell over on the squash court yesterday. Felt some pain in my achilles but carried on. Not too clever for a 44 year old. This morning could not walk on it and local A&E diagnosed tendonitus and gave me a week of anti imflamitry pills. I wear heavy boots for work and look after my feet as i keep myself active most days outside work. I do a lot of running, 7 marathons to date and fear for my money makers! Have been online and seems RICE is the way to go. 24 Hours on and my foot feels worse now than it has been.Just want to get back into my trainers! Know it wont be for at least a week with the right care and attention. Is swimming part of rehab?

It might be a few weeks before you can start training again depending on the severity of the strain. Try a heel raise on the affected limb and some gentle calf stretches.

Thanks Kempir. Will go for a swim the weekend and see how it feels. Think i should invest in some footwear for work. A colleage a work mentioned that he wears soles in his boots that are a mould from his feet. Could this be the way to go? Would there be a cheaper alternative?

Cheers.

Michael

Hey Michael,

It's probably a good idea to invest in some really supportive footwear. i.e no thongs! Look at your runners too. They generally need replacing after about 9 months. Earlier if you're doing more activity. You can get inserts into your shoes. These can be bought off the shelf - come in small, medium, large etc. Otherwise you can have custom ones made. It depends if you have a biomechanical anomalie that could be contributing to the A.Tendinitis. If not I would just stick with RICE, heel raises, stretches and rest for the meantime. HTH

Lauren.
