Nagging Achilles TendinitisPlease Help! I have been plagued with achilles tendinitis for the past six months. I am a 46 year old male, 6'2", 200 lbs. in very good health and play recreational basketball 2-3 days a week as well as 3 days of weight training in the gym. I wear sport orthodics in both of my sneakers because of a plantar fascitis condition I had 6 years ago which healed a fairly quick. I gradually started to feel pain in my left achilles six months ago while playing basketball outside during this past summer. It progressivly got worse and finally I rested it for a couple of weeks. Upon returning to basketball it re-aggrevated almost immediatly. I then rested it for 4 more weeks with only the same result upon returning. I went to my podiatrist and he gave me a cortisone injection in the sheathing (?)surrounding the tendon and put me on 7.5 mg of Mobic for 4 weeks and told me to rest. He also put a lift in my existing left orthodic. After 4 weeks the pain was still there and he gave me a second and final cortisone injection followed by more Mobic and more rest. It started to feel better after 6 weeks of rest. I then went and tested it out with a game of basketball and after some jumping and planting movements it almost returned to its original pain level! Please tell me if there is anything else I can do to beat this problem? This is by far the most fustrating injury I have ever experienced. I have also tried streching and icing to go along with the other treatment. Will I ever be able to play basketball again? Please advise. Thank You, Jim L.
