Need help identifying my problemI am 15 and started summer football conditioning 2 weeks ago. I have had for the past 5 or 6 days had a severe pain in the very back of my ankle, an area I would define as my Achilles tendon, and it goes up my calf. After attempting to stretch my calf my whole back heel area feels like its pulsating. It is painful to press my finger against the upper heel/tendon area. I am interested in knowing whether or not this sounds similiar to tendonitis or whether it is one of the many other ailments that I might have. Also I would appreciate any treatments that might be beneficial for me to administer. Thank you
Re: Need help identifying my problemThis is pretty much (I am also 15 and got my ailment from running Cross Country) exactly the situation in which I was (except I have it in both ankles). I tried resting and ice and any other thing I thought would help, but eventually (actually sadly after the season was under way) I had no choice but to see a doctor. Now I am in physical therapy which includes a treatement called Iontophoresis in which they use an electric current to move medicine into the tendons instead of using injection, obviously this can't be done at home, so I strongly suggest seeing a doctor. Even if he tells you something you don't want to hear, it is better than missing out on the last two years of football because of continuing problems.
