Questions about achilles tear:

Post a new topicby wdb on Sat Nov 24, 2007 6:38 pm

Hey I've got a question I was hoping someone might be able to help me with. I have not only torn one, but both achilles tendons. The first one was about 11 months ago after a workout where I had overstretched and overworked my calves and when I got home, all I did was get up on my tip toes to reach something and felt a little 'pop' in my left achilles. I didn't get any treatment besides an exam and continued to walk on it through some fairly decent pain. It has improved very slowly and is at about 50% at this point. The right tendon was injured 5 months ago by pushing a mattress sideways with my leg. I didn't feel any pop or anything but it turned out to be just as bad as the left. They are both still very unstable. I have reached the point where I can walk around a moderate amount without pain like around the grocery store but too much walking will make them hurt. If I stretch them too much they will hurt and will suffer a bit of damage and hurt for a few days or more. One time I had to take an emergency step and stretched to a range that would be in no way abnormal to a regular achilles and felt a very painful electricity like feeling shoot through my achilles and through the bottom of my foot. Due to this inabillity to stretch, I walk with my feet slightly sideways like a duck, which is humiliating but is getting better. Externally, they both seem to feel normal. Does anybody have any actual experience with this type of injury? Did you recover and how long did it take? What level of activity were you able to resume to? Is a tear ever able to be felt externally? Any experience you could provide would be really appreciated. Thanks.
