Sore on the side of the achilles???I've walked 3 marathons in the last 6 months and am jogging 5-8Ks. I've have had very minor soreness behind my ankles after long walks and short jogs? I started cross training and did too much last week. I pulled something just to the side of the achilles (between the back of my leg and the soft part behind the ankle). I can walk and turn my ankle all around without any pain. It hurts when I fully flex my toes (pull them up). Is this the side of the achilles or actually the achilles? I'm pretty sure I hurt it by overdueing my stair workout (I aggrevated this part going down too many stairs) and doing squats without paying close enough attention to how far my knees were moving forward. I think this over stretched everything. I'm just backing off for a couple weeks and will then ease back. Any suggestions to help my recovery and future prevention? Thank you!
Re: Sore on the side of the achilles???It is most likely the achilles because this is the tendon you use the most with squats and stairs. Hopefully is is just inflammed and not partially torn. You really should be exmained by a podiatrist to make sure it is only starined. However, even if it is only strained, I would use an ACE bandage and stay away from stairs and squats for at least two weeks. Have a nice day and please write back if you have any further questions.
