Arthritis Pain After SurgeryI broke my ankle over 25 years ago skydiving. I had surgery and was in a cast afterwards. I did not have any plates or screws inserted.
I now have a lot of pain in my ankle. I just recently started using an orthotic. Which may or may not help. The pain radiates from my ankle across my forefoot. It can be very acute at times. I can turn on my ankle on the slightest uneven ground, even a small pebble can cause me to fall. I have consulted my GP and he says there is nothing that can be done, e...Read the full article
Re: Arthritis Pain After SurgeryI have just had surgery on a badly arthritic ankle, I Have had many ankle injuries right from an early age, sprained at the age of 10, ligament damge at 23 and broken at 39, I have had to put up with considerable pain for about 5 years now which has got worse, to a point when I could not run on it, and work become diffacult.
Went to my GP and got the old "not much can be done" had to push to see a specialist, Dr Bowyer from Winchester agreed to operate, I had an op on Monday the 18th feb, an overnite stay in Hospital and out with a plaster cast and crutches next day, No weight bearing for 2 weeks, I am now 2 weeks later and can put weight onto my ankle, I have very little swelling but some bruising, Big thing though I have no pain at all and have not taken any of the pain killers they gave me to come home with (just taken the anti-inflamatories), The ankle feels a bit weak and I'm now waiting for physio to strengthen the joint. Early days yet but it's the best it has felt for many many years. The op is quite a big op, I was down for 2 hours and completley out for the count, A 6 inch cut down the front of the ankle, He has scraped the bone removed any debri and fluid. Due to see the doc on Monday 10th Feb, it will be 3 weeks after surgery, will keep you posted, I would push to get something done, My only regret is not having done sooner,
