ankle cold and wet feeling

Post a new topicby chickie on Wed Mar 12, 2008 8:30 am

I have been to 2 different ortho's, 1 said I have a severe sprain and put me in a boot for close to 3 months. The other said I have an old injury and to wear the boot another 2 months. Well I am still having problems, swelling, ankle feels like cold water running down it and it hurts alot. Now what?

The next question is whether you did have an old injury or any recent injury that incited this latest ankle pain event. I'm sure x-rays were taken and those may need to be evaluated again. The next step is to get a MRI of the ankle to check the ankle joint itself to see if the joint surface was damaged or not. Physical therapy is another avenue to try to get the swelling down and decrease the pain. The "water down your ankle" sensation sounds like a nerve type of issue and could be related to the compressed nerves from the swelling or from something coming from the back. Without an examination, it's hard to say. A diagnostic injection can also help to find where the pain is coming from. I know you've seen 2 ortho guys already and hate to say it but I would look for another opinion from a foot and ankle specialist in your area - you can find one x www.footphysicians.com. Hope this helps!
