Ankle Injuries

This past Wednesday, I fell off the steps of our mobile home. It happened so fast I couldn't break my fall. I felt or heard or both, something pop in my right foot. I landed on my knee. My knee is fine. At first I couldn't move my right foot at all because of severe pain. I crawled a couple of feet away after sitting there for a few minutes, to grab the steps to pull myself up, and got into the house, but could hardly bare weight on my foot. Luckily I had prescription pain pills for my back. I waited til the next day to see my Dr. ..My outside ankle has some swelling, and the Dr. said there was some bruising. Even though my ankle didn't hit the ground. He said to ice it and wrap it and elevate it for 2 days and if not any better to go get an xray. Which would be today. We have no insurance, I wonder how much good it would do to xray it. The pain is the same. I have bumped it lightly on the pc desk 2x and the pain is awful even radiates to the back of my heel. I have a hard time even putting a sock on, it hurts so bad. I can turn the foot out but not in and I can lift my toes up but not down. Any idea what might be wrong ?? Thanks for any ideas, ro4949
