ankle pain; nothing shows on x-ray

Hi. About a month ago, while helping my daughter move out of her dorm, the huge, heavy bin I was pulling behind me sped up and crashed into the back of my foot. The pain was extreme and at first I felt like I couldn't walk on that foot. It began to bleed, and upon examination, I saw that the skin on my ankle had been split open. I was able to limp to the car, clean it out with a water bottle, and put a large band aid on it. The bleeding soon stopped and it was okay, except hurt when I walked or pressure was put on it. Now, a month later, the skin is almost completely healed (there is still a small scab), but the area is still swollen and bruised looking. If I move my foot in certain ways, such as stretching it upward from my toes, I get an intense pain from the injured area, as though something (a muscle?) is pulling apart. I went for an x-ray, but nothing unusual showed up. Do muscle injuries show up on x-ray? It feels to me like a muscle in my ankle is trying to heal from the trauma of the bin accident, but everytime I stretch it the wrong way, I'm re-injuring it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
