Continuing and worsening painI have had pain across the top of my foot/ankle (across the talus bone) that usually comes and goes, but has become more chronic. The pain is worse during plantar flexion of the foot. It is very tender to the touch and the only thing that lessens the pain is to bring my toes up toward my shin, like doing a calf stretch. I have noticed that when I sleep on my side or stomach and my foot naturally lays flat against the bed, I wake up with worse pain. Then I feel like I need to keep my foot/ankle bent for the rest of the day just to get some relief. I can't remember ever injuring this foot, so I have no idea about the cause of my pain. Anyone ever experience anything like this and what did Dr.s tell you? Thanks so much in advance.
Re: Continuing and worsening painThis has happened to me once on the left ankle and now on the right. I play soccer on artificial turf in cleats. After an abrupt stop, the cleat caught in the turf and I felt my ankle tweak around the achilles as if the tibia/fibia were moving forward and jarring the talus. At the time, no pain followed and I continued playing.
Two weeks later I slept on my side with right ankle hanging over left. I woke up an felt strain, but not immediate pain. The next night I can't even sleep, very little weight bearing and I have to walk very slowly with my foot pronated out 45 degrees. Very strange that it take sleeping wrong to activate such a grueling injury. Any ideas? Dr's told me it was a internal bruise. It did go away, but I am still puzzled by the injury.
