question/unsure regarding ankle

Post a new topicby dbrandstetter on Tue Apr 22, 2008 12:16 pm

Hello,
I was wondering if someone could help. I am not sure if there is anything seriously wrong but I recently started feeling some what I describe as "bone movement" off and on with my right ankle. I don't know what I did other than maybe some exstensive "squatting" in the garden. I don't feel it all the time but it will happen unexpectantly for instance when I get out of bed or walk a certain way. It doesn't hurt, I just feel a little twinge a split second pain but then nothing. I walk around normally the rest of the time, so I am not sure what happened. I appreciate your comments.
Thank you

additional info would be easier but let me take a stab at some of the generalities that might offer help or insight..."bone movement" sounds like instability and that may be present with or without trauma...if you are somewhat "chronologically progressed" ( beyond 55) and have led an active lifestyle for many years a wear and tear arthritis may produce spur formations...osteoporosis may produce a softened bone quality that might present as small fragments...strain of a ligament or tendon group with subsequent inflammation may also mimic the instability...an x-ray will rule out the bone questions...unfortunately an mri would be necessary to rule out ligament or tendon issues...rest, support, ice applications and advil on a regular basis for say a 7-10 day period, in the absence of a stress fracture or true bone problem may be considered before seeing the doc...if this has had a duration of >8 weeks then you should visit your local board certified podiatrist...
thanks
