Stay off the affected foot until your surgeon/doctor tells you it's okay to bear weight on it. You'll be in a cast for a prolonged time so when you get out of the cast and you got the OK to bear weight on it, be sure to begin passive ankle exercises to keep reduce the stiffness. PT will also help with this. Some swelling can occur post-cast removal. As long as you listen to your surgeon/doctor, you'll have full recovery from your fracture.

Hope you had an oppurtunity to go to physical therapy. They can help give you the confidence to move forward. By now, 3 months in, the bones should have healed in really well that it's ok to bear normal weight on it. I understand because of the injury you are a little hesitant, but it's ok to put more weight through it. It'll further solidify the bone. If you haven't gone to physical therapy, that would be the next place to go. Good luck!
