I finally have an answer….My daughter who is 14 years old has been living with a deformed toe most of her life. She wasnt born with this, it just stopped growing. It is on her right foot and is the fourth toe. This deformaty is very embarrassing for her as she is entering her teenage years and is very sensitive about it. If there is anyone out there that has had surgery done to a toe like this please contact me. I would love to hear your experience and if was successful.

Re: I finally have an answer….Hi, I'm 24 years old and am currently at the end of the surgery. I don't want to sound negative about it, but it definately is a struggle. It usually is 2 months long, with no weight on the foot AT ALL. I've been on crutches since Apr 29th because my surgery had a lot of complications. I healed too quickly the first time, which only means I'm healthy but was not good in terms of this surgery. They rebroke my toe the second time, so it would grow out to the proper length and once again I had the oral fixator on it. It's now July 16th and I still can not walk on my foot. Only because of those complications. It's painful too. I suggest if your daughter is ready to get this done, just remind her of the conditions. I had to get it done in the nice weather because the doctor said there's nothing to cover your foot when you have an oral fixator on it so it would be cold in the winter and hard to have crutches with snow and ice. So basically my summer has been shot this year. I did absolutely nothing and still can not do anything. Hopefully sometime next week, I will be walking with the help from a special boot. The surgery was probably worth it since I had pain with this, however, I would not suggest it cosmetically. I am mentally drained and have a hard time coping with the fact that I haven't been able to walk for this long. I know it would be worse, but this is worse than it SHOULD have been. Feels like I'm missing out, and I can't imagine how much worse it would for a teenager. If you want anymore info or your daughter has questions, just let me know.
Re: I finally have an answer….The scar isn't too bad. With all the medicine they have now to treat scars, it's just going to take sometime to disappear. Walking is good. I'm STILL going to physical therapy, which wasn't suggested to me by the Dr who did my surgery. I went for a second opinion on my surgery in January of this year. Physical Therapy was suggested by the new Dr who is following up on my foot every other month. I like the new Dr better. The surgery itself went awful. April 29th to the beginning of August I wasn't walking. Then I started to walk with a special boot. I believe the doctor messed up. I had 3 surgeries at that time and still here I am dealing with the aftermath. As for the scar and walking, lotions for scars helped and therapy helped A LOT with walking. My toe isn't even completely fixed. It looks better, but still looks like I have a deformed toe.
Re: I finally have an answer….Thanks for the reply my dear, i wish you a speedy reconvery.
from all i read here, choosing a good doctor is the most important thing, otherwise a person will suffer alot, i dont think i can afford 4 month not walking.. so i will have to live with it, thanks a lot for sharing your valuable information.
