Big Toes much longer than the rest

Hi,
I am the only one in my immediate family who has toe/bunion problems. I have long toes and all of the others are much shorter going down, like stairs. All my life I have had problems with shoes fitting just right. Because of my long big toes, I would get shoes that were a little roomier for my big toe. This would mean using my big toe constantly for gripping more. If I got the next size smaller, the tip of my toes always felt the hard tip of the shoe and again pressure was placed on the...Read the full article

Hi Livingwith - I wouldn't have thought there was anybody else out there like me, but your foot structure sounds just like mine. One of my sisters as well as her son's feet are similar, but not to the extent of mine. I too of course have bunions, but unfortunately I entrusted a podiatrist to perform surgery to correct one of my bunions. He also said he would shorten the toe, as he put it, he could do anything. That was 15 months ago, and my foot has not been the same as I have had nothing but discomfort since. Just this week I went to an orthopedic surgeon who after examining my foot, said that I have had a botched/failed surgery. He wants me to try some conservative treatment and if that doesn't help, that I will have to decide if I want yet more surgery to fix the last surgeon's mess. All I can say is that if you have mild and tolerable discomfort from your bunions, to leave them alone - seriously. If you want to look into it though-research, research, research your surgeon. I would stay away from podiatrists like the plague, instead go to an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in the foot and ankle. They have a medical degree, unlike podiatrists. I totally sympathize with you as this type of foot structure is a real challenge. Good luck and please feel free to write back if you have any comments or questions.

Hello,

From the desctiption of your feet, it sounds a lot like mine. The top of my feet are shaped like triangles. I too have bunions on both feet and they hurt. I do not want to go through surgery, but have been thinking about it a lot! I'm so scarred!
