Bunion RecurrenceI just had a bunionectomy (a week ago). It was severe, so the doctor cut the bone and repositioned it, etc..
I am 36, and have had bunions since my teens. I read in a response to someone else's question that surgery techniques for correcting bunions have improved dramatically in the last decade. Can you tell me precisely how they have improved? I'm really nervous about recurrence. BTW, I have very mild cerebral palsy, which may have been a contributing factor. Are there specific things that I should pay attention to, so that I can assure they won't come back? My doctor is a rather hesitant man. I get the feeling he is not telling me the whole story.
Re: Bunion RecurrenceCP can cause muscle contractions so there is no guarantee they wil not coem back. However, you should ask about orthotic inserts to help support you feet in an effort to decrease the chance of recurrence. Technology has improved with better ways to put the bones back together with pins and screws. Also, more is known about post-operative care so that people are on their feet faster which helps limit pain and increae satisfaction.
