Bunion surgery

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Dec 27, 2001 8:55 am

is it possible that while having surgery the doctor has to shorten your big toe? If so how common is this procedure and what are the set backs of having your big toe broken or cut down?

When fixing a bunion, your toe will shorten automatically due to the angle of the bone cut that the doctor makes. If your big toe is excessively long, the surgeon may make a second cut to shorten your toe. In this case, there are no extra complications versus a regular bunion surgery and it will alow your big toe joint to work more effectively without the jamming cause in this joint by the long big toe. Have a nice day and please write back if you have any further questions.
