bunions

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon Jul 23, 2001 12:07 pm

I am a 45 year old female. I think I have bunions on both feet and they really hurt. My big toes are not turning (yet?)but the protrusion hurts on the inside. I have worn orthotics for about 4 years and they do help some because I REALLY hurt without them. The podiatrist I was seeing just told me not to do anything that would make them hurt (!!?!). I like to exercise and run and would hate to quit that. Are there exercises I can do to help strengthen the ligaments inside? Will the toes eventually start turning or is there a possibility that these are not bunions and that something else is wrong? I didn't really like that doctor and he is no longer practicing so I have to find another one anyway. Any suggestions? THANKS!

Instead of bunions, you may have what is known as hallux limitus. This is a jamming of the big toe joint which can be caused by many factors. Therefore, you should see another podiatrist. The best way to find a good podiatrist is to ask your friends and co-workers for recommendations. You will notice one or two podiatrists that everyone recommends. Good luck and have a nice day.
