Exercise after Bunion Surgery (both feet)

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Aug 09, 2001 3:52 pm

I am an avid Aerobic exerciser.
How soon will I be able to exercise again after the surgery. I did surgery on both feet on both sides (i.e, I have 4 cuts.)
The Doctor told me that on the right
outer "pinkie" where he cut me, the bone was a little weak and had to put
a screw in to help strengthen the bone area, but this will come out at the end of 7-8 weeks).
Right now I am into my 7th week of recovery. I'm feet are feeling great, with the exception of a little swelling most on the inner area of the feet where the big toe is. And also I can feeling the pinching of the screw on the pinkie side.
Do you think it's OK to start excercising after 8 weeks. Help...I have tried finding this answer on every web site that out there on Bunions but to no avail.

It sounds like your surgeon is excellent and has allowed you to recover very well. Therefore, you need to ask your surgeon this question. He/she may want to remove the screw first. You should also ask about swimming for exercise as well. He/she would probably agree and this can be very good for exercise as well as therapeautic. I wish I could tell you it is okay but you are so close to complete recovery that it would be foolish to rush it at this time. Have a nice day and please write back if you have any further questions.
