Is it possible for a bunion to appear overnight? I spent a weekend doing a lot of walking, but in comfortable, flat shoes.

When I got home last night, it looked as if the lower joint of my big toe had grown a second, hard, pea-sized bump below it.

What might this bump be? It doesn't quite fit the descriptions of bunions I've found on this site. It's weird to touch it -- mostly because it feels hard and like an extra bone, not because it's causing much pain.
