What percentage of the population suffers from bunions? How many require surgery? How many must avoid post-surgical weight-bearing for a prescribed period?

The percent of the population with bunions depends upon many factors including geographical location, sex and even ethnic backround. Therefore, there is no set perecentage but it varies from 10%-30%. Bunions require surgery if they hurt. This means there is arthitis occurring and it should be treated. Weight-bearing after surgery is dependent upon how large the bunion was and how the bunion was fixed. Weight-bearing typically starts 1-14 days after surgery.
