Stress fractures and bunion surgery

Post a new topicby doe53 on Wed Jul 22, 2009 9:12 pm

well, i just got dx with a 2nd metatarsal stress fracture a few weeks ago (Jul 07, 2009) on the right foot and wearing a cam-walker. The same thing happened a year ago (Jun2008).

Seems like the bunion on that foot is causing bone deformity and I also have osteoarthritis which makes the bones brittle. So the stress on the bones moving the wrong direction causes the fractures. I also got Morton's neuroma last year on both feet because of the fracture and wearing the cam-walker.

Once I am healed from the fracture, the podiatrist is looking into alcohol injections to both feet to get rid of the neuroma Has anyone had these injections? Tell me about it. I hate needles so am petrified. I have had one session of a cortizone shot in Dec 2008. OUCH!

Then once all this is taken care of, we need to address the bunion I think he wants to realign things and place a pin in permanently. Someone please fill me in this and the pain, recovery, etc.

I know I have to face the music and get well so I want to prepare myself for this.

I am single, 56 yo, live in a townhouse. Should I move in with my cousin as I could stay on one floor? Or should I try to manage my stairs? About how long is one out of work in general?

Any and all info is welcomed.
