TAYLORS BUNIONETTES

Post a new topicby Guest on Fri May 17, 2002 12:12 am

I have been diagnose with bilateral taylor's buinoinettes. I begin to notice them shortly after I bought new pair of shoes and replaced the insoles an noticed a small difference. I kept feeling a if I was going to get an ulceration on the side of my foot. I finally saw a podiatrist today and was told I needed surgery on both feet, though I will only have one done at a time. I am very nervous. I was told that the bone would be shaved down and and my pinky realigned and a pin placed. How much pain is involved with the recovery? I work on my feet 12 hours a days several times a week as I am a respiratory therapist. Right now my shoes are realy hurting me an I dread everyday that I have to wear them. How long should I expect to be off work? Thanx for any help in advance.

I had my tailor bunions removed about a year ago and it sounds like you are having the same procedure as i did. I didn't have a lot of pain with the recovery. I was on some mild pain killers and wasn't in much discomfort at all. The surgery was a wonderful relief from the pain of my bunions. I was back on my feet without crutches in about 2 weeks, although I still had to wear the very stylish orthopedic shoes. The only negative part of my experience was about 5 months after my initial surgery, I began to have nerve pain. One of the two screws in my right foot began to unscrew and my nerve wrapped around it. I had the screws removed 2 months later and it was a huge success. If I had known the end result from the surgery, I would have done it all over again. The end result was much better than living with the pain of my bunions. I wish you much luck with your surgery and a wonderful recovery!

P.S. Don't be nervous!

Recovery time does take about 4-6 weeks before the bone is completely healed. It is smart to do one at a time. You should discuss the post-opertive time periods with your surgeon because everyone has their own particular beliefs and there are different types of surgery that can be performed. Therefore, your surgeon will give you what he or she believes to be the best protocol for you to follow after surgery.
