Types of bunion surgery

Post a new topicby Guest on Fri Apr 26, 2002 6:01 pm

My wife has terrible bunions that cause her terrible pain. To make things worse she is a RN and on her feet almost 10 to 12 hours a day. Been trying to do some research on the types of surgery available to correct this problem, but there doesn't seem to be very many options that will allow her to be back on her feet and back to work. The few docs we have talked to all say it takes about 2 months to heal and is very painful. Do you know of any other methods that don't take so long to heal and are not painful. Please advise.

Unforunately, the bones need to be cut and realigned and there is no way to speed up the healing of the bone which takes 6-8 weeks. The good news is that surgery is not very painful with the new medications available for the first 48 hours after surgery. Also, she will be able to walk well and return to work after two weeks when the stitches come out. Therefore, it is a good option before the joints become damaged beyond repair.
