Have dry skin on the botton my foot and it hurts very bad. It is a calluse. On my right foot I have about two and on my left foot have about two. They even hurt when I walk. Please respond and what I should do about this.

You could try soaking your feet in Epsom salts. You could also see a podiatrist who may decide to remove the callous

Calluses often have a bit of athletes foot in their makeup. I would suggest an anti-fungal in your regime. There is a wonderful foot file made by Diamancele. It is a diamond file and can be sterilized. It is expensive, but worth it. You might google it and buy one online. I use rotary drills with sterilized bits to removed calluses on my patients. If you go to a health professional to get the
initial callus thoroughly reduced, you might then be able to manage it with the diamond file. Make sure whoever you see uses sterilized bits, a new one for each patient. If they come toward you with a dremel grinder from the hardware store, turn around and run! Those pieces of equipment, used by most unfortunately, are really unprofessional. If someone is using that tool, they either are too cheap to buy good equipment, or not up to date enough on the proper equipment, and you should seek help elsewhere. You might ask over the phone what tools they use to reduce calluses. I also would avoid someone who uses a scalpel. Good luck.

I had no idea athletes foot was invovled with calluses. My husband and I both have toenail fungus. We have been having it filed down by the podiatrist, but one of these doctors told my husband to get soem Tea Tree Oil (Target or Walmart) and use that on the toenails. It is amazing, what it is doing. The nails are thinning and they are much softer...we go back to see the Podiatrist in April, so hopefully we can get rid of these darn fungi, and I think I will try some of that Tea Tree Oil on this thing on my foot. This oil is originally used for the skin, anyway. It is from Auatrailia, and if it does what the expesive medicines can't then I am all for it.

What on earth kind of "drill" does a podiatrist use? I guess one of them used some little drill on my toes when I first started seeing one, but he moved to another state and I had to find another doctor.

There are many different types of rotary drills that one can use on their feet. The one I use is a small cordless drill that goes up to 25,000 rpm's. I take bits ( or burs ) traditionally used for different industries, sterilize them....and then I sculpt away the thick nails and reduce calluses. My main
interest is in using this technique I have developed is to prevent amputations in diabetics. I am on the verge of starting a nonprofit to teach in developing countries. I was in Africa twice last year. I brought one of these drills and donated it to a small clinic there. Our first project will be building a foot clinic in Zanzibar. I also make my own medicinal foot salves and will be teaching the Swahili population in Zanzibar to make their own. I have used creams. The products by Barielle have really worked out for me. They have a total foot cream for dry skin & a heel & callus treatment cream.

Of course if the problem persists you best see a doctor, but these creams have always done the job for me.
