charcot foot and dx

Post a new topicby jdenley on Wed Feb 04, 2009 11:29 am

Does Charcot Foot mean a foot that has developed the shape of a foot of someone with Charcot Marie Tooth? If so, other than diabetes, what else can cause a foot to develop this? My daughter has had rapid foot progression over the past 1 1/2 years (now 20 years old) and just had major foot surgery on one foot. Genetic blood work did not show up Charcot Marie Tooth. Nerve biopsy showed demylination and secondary demyelination as seen with axonopathy but it says.."not particularly suggestive of CMT but does not exclude CMT Not too helpful. My concerns begin with these..
What is to keep her foot from the severe foot drop and arch foot progression again after surgery?
What other dx could have this classic looking foot that may lead us to a treatment?
We have seen 10 doctors in the past year (5 ortho and 5 neuro). I don't want to rest on this if there is treatment to slow the progression. Thanks.
