Charcot Foot

hi, my name is tracey and i have Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease Type 2 and my question is, my mother was just diagnosed with Charcot foot and i am wondering is this the same as what i have, or a possible side effect from it? she has never been diagnosed with the disease i have,(she has never been tested) or is this completly something different? I see that the same person diagnosed this. I currently have not been diagnosed with diabetes although she has it pretty bad. (I have been checked for diabetes.) If someone is familiar with this i would Greatly Appreciate any answers you may have and i can be reached at [moderator note: e-mail addresses have been removed]. As to my mother never being tested, she has always been one of these that if "she doesn't get tested she doesn't have it" syndrome. Thanks so much in advance for any information you may have.

Hi Tracey,
My name is Tami.. I am new to this website. I also have CMT. My mother has not been tested either, HOWEVER, when I visited her on vacation.. I COULD HAVE DX'D her myself.... so, that mystery is solved. There are 5 kids & so far, I am the only one that has been DX'd. (I am 45 yrs old, was dx'd 5 yrs ago). I just read on another website that CMT is different from Charcot Foot. There is also some information on this website about the 2. THEY ARE DIFFERENT. It sounds like your mom has neurapathy pain in her feet, which is caused by Diabetes as well as CMT. I feel so isolated from the rest of the world/friends/family with CMT. Somedays (like when it rains) I can not move because of the pain. My DR has no clue what to do for me. I have been to every type of DR out there. I am a nurse, even spoke with our Medical Director about it. IT SEEMS NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT CMT. All my DR wants to do is give out pain medication. It would be really nice to have someone to communicate with about this CMT. For ppl that dont have it, they just dont understand. my email address is
