After bunionectomy

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jun 03, 2001 12:12 pm

I had a bunion removed 7 months ago. I had bone shaved as well as fracture/realignment(pin). I now have 10 degree upward movement zero degrees downward movement in big toe. I would like to get or foot done I would like to know I could do so I do not lose motion in foot eir. lack of motion makes walking painful. I have more pain now than bee surgery. Thank !

The lack of motion is most likely due to scar tissue in and around the joint. The best way to inhibit this from reoccurring is to move the toe back and forth within the first one to two weeks after the surgery. This will prevent scar tissue from building up and causing the decreased range of motion that you experienced with the other foot. Physical therapy is an excellent idea after bunion surgery. Also, physical therpy may be able to help increase the motion in the foot you already had bunion surgery on. Good luck and if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
