Diabetes Type 1 sore remedies

Post a new topicby kabosweet on Sat Apr 26, 2008 6:12 pm

I have aneighbor that we take care of daily that has Diabetes type 1 and is danger of having his leg amputated due to sores and whatever else it is that causes this. My mother has diabetes Type 1 and was telling me that if this fluid gets on him in other places it is contagious to him.
Can this be contagious to my mother also, or is this only to him? We do what we can to take care of him, but it seems that maybe he could soak this sore or something to try and help the healing process.
I cannot find any info on this and am curious if there is anything we may can do other than keeping his leg wrapped and applying neosporin to assist in the healing of this sore caused by, or related to his diabetes Is there something more we can do to help him, and I am also worried about my mother being exposed to this and whether it could be a harm to her in any way.
Please let me know if you have any input on this situation. I would definately appreciate it!

any infectious process can be contagious...perhaps googling the american academy of wound management would be helpful...there are a tremendous number of materials and approaches to
non-healing wounds...far too many to discuss here...if the website mentioned does not provide adequate answers then i strongly recommend a trip toyour local board certified foot specialist and/or woundcare center for evaluation...
