contrast dye - when needed? My doctor sent me to have an MRI of my brain and said I needed contrast dye. However, when I got to the test sight, the technician said I didn't need it and did the mri without the dye. I am confused now as to whether or not the mri will be totally effective without the dye. Symptoms related to headaches, tinnitus, sinus trouble.....thanks.
Re: contrast dye - when needed? Many if not most head MRI's are done without contrast. MRI, by itself, is a very sensitive test for picking up brain abnormalities. Many use contrast, gadolinium, only in certain circumstances.
