Ionized+radiationI am having an allergic reaction to the radiation that was used during a CT scan. I had the scan in December, and the reaction has not ended. I have been treated with anti-histamines and sterroids. But the rash has never gone completely away. I even have fatigue, which may be due to the reaction, or the amount of anti-histamines I take to keep from having huge disk shaped hives that swell up all over. I have gained weight due to the Prednizone, and every time I follow the course of the prescription, the rash returns in full swing. I'm wondering abou the benefits, since I have taken Prednizone three times, and the rash still wins out.Is there any hope of the reaction ending? How long should I expect it to last? Should I contact some one who specializes in these type of reactions? Also, why wasn't I given anything prior to the test to help prevent these problems? Isn't there a couple of medicines used in advance of the proceddure to prevent this?
Any info you have will help. Thank you, Vicki Breedlove
Re: Ionized+radiationIf you are talking about a contrast reaction that occurred after they injected dye for a CT scan, I can only say that reactions delayed this long are not well known if known at all. If you are talking about a reaction from the radiation, I would think you'd be mistaken. The amount of radiation you received would not and could not cause this sort of skin reaction.
You should definitely see someone about the rash. Good luck!
I am having an allergic reaction to the radiation that was used during a CT scan. I had the scan in December, and the reaction has not ended...
Re: Re: Ionized+radiationVicki,
I just posted a question for myself regarding a reaction I had to the dye for my ct scan. I just wanted to offer you luck in your recovery. My reaction is different, but I am still not getting any answers and not much help. They all just shrug their shoulders. To answer your one question, where we live they do give you preventative prednisone and benedryl the day before the scan if they feel you will have an allergic reaction. Good Luck, Sheryl
I am having an allergic reaction to the radiation that was used during a CT scan. I had the scan in December, and the reaction has not ended...
