Radiology ReportDear Radiologists,
I am an 8th grade student at Elm Place Middle School in Illinois, and I am doing a career project/report on the medical field of Radiology for my English class. I have always been interested in the specialty, and I think I want to become a Doctor later in life. Are there any Diagnostic Radiologists or Radiological Oncologists here that can answer a few interview questions? As follows: 1. What is the best part of your job 2. What kind of person must you be to a Doctor? 3. How often do you travel? 4. On average, how long do you work each week? 5. What colleges did you attend? How long were you a resident, and where? 6. Were you involved in fellowship training (neuroradiology, vascular and invasive ect.)? 7. At what type of place do you work at (hospital, private office)? 8. What is the average or starting salary? 9. What kind of work do you do on a daily basis? 10. Any other important topics I can cover in my paper? Thank you.
Re: Radiology ReportBest part is working with patients.
To be a doctor you have to like science and care about people. You also cannot be squeamish. I travel 3-4 times on average per year half of which is for educational purposes. I used to work 4 1/2 days per week, from 8 to 5. Then there is call, weekends and nights. I attended Cornell University and State University of New York at Buffalo. I did a three year diagnostic radiology residency at the University of Cincinnati. I did not become involved in subspecialty training. Starting salaries are astronomical these days. From 200K on up. I read all sorts of images... x-rays, CT scans, mammograms, upper GI series, barium enemas and MRI's. Check out the "Day in the life of a radiologist" on the website.
