6 month updateWell, my second fistulotomy surgery (1st one was two months before the 2nd) was 6 months ago. I still feel the need to clean a little more than normal after I go #2. I still seem to have the gas. I soak once a day for about 10 minutes. That sure beats 3x a day for 20 minutes. The healing took alot longer than I expected. The Doctor said 8/10 weeks. It took longer. I would say at least 5 months. It’s different for every body.
I feel great and I am glad it is over!!! male 38yo, in ...Read the full article
Re: 6 month updateI had my first fistulotomy in October. I was still discharging in november and still had pain so my doctor felt there could be so kind of infection still. I had my second one in december. It has now been about two months since my last fistulotomy and for a time i felt like i was getting better but now im starting to feel the pain get a little worse. I am also discharging still. My situation sounds a little similar to yours with the fact being we both had to have two done. I have an question for anyone reading this that has gone through this. How long was it before the pain, bleeding, and discharging stopped? i just want to know if this could possibly be normal with the healing process
Re: 6 month updateIt really depends on what the discharge is. Is it the same puss looking stuff tha came from the fistula or is it the yellow after surgery stuff? For me the yellow stuff did not stop until at 6 or 7 weeks (if not more). I was in pain for a month. All of the research told me a week here and two weeks for this and that. Double it!!!
Also, the shape of your hole is different now. You may be leaking liquid #2. I know it sound gross. I am not too sure about the bleeding. I did have some red in my stool or some when I would wipe. It was not alot. You may still need to use stool softeners. I was using them months after the surgery. I feel that everything you are going through is normal... My Dr. said 8-10 weeks and it was way more than that. Be sure to keep it clean, even after you go # 2. I still get streaks in my under wear every now and a gain. Also, in just the past month I have noticed that I can squeeze my buttcheaks and not feel the surgery sight. I would say it took at least three months before I actually started to feel normal. But, you should ask your Dr. the same questions. Oh, did you have stitches? I had one and it hurt like a MoeFoe. The second surgery was way more painfull than the 1st one. I hope I was some help... I know it sux... and you don't want the world to know that you had surgery there. feel free to ak anything about life with a healing fistula. It will get better.
