I had a Lateral Sphincterotomy after dealing with two extremely painful fissures for 3 months. After the surgery, I felt I had healed the first week on the antiobiotics..until I noticed the incision area was insanely swolen and I was extremely itchy. I went back for my week after follow-up and the doc said that my body had re-acted poorly to the stitches and that the incision had healed over one of the stitches and formed and infection. Hello, I just found this site. I know that anal fissures are hideously painful. I have had this for 4 years. It happened after rather botched colon surgery for diverticulitis. Seven days after surgery I started to hemmorrage from the anus, had to have two blood transfusions. The surgeon was on vacation so another MD tried to stop the hemmorraging and went thru the anal canal, and apparently tore quite a bit of it. I woke up in ICU and have been in PAIN ever since. Neither of the two surgeons will agree to see me. I have been going to my gastro for help. I've had Botox injections in that area. They didn't help and just caused more pain for the following 2 weeks. Since then I just live with it. I take tylenol and sleep on a heating pad. My life has not been the same since the surgery to say the least. I have been wondering about this procedure but have been very afraid that it will make matters worse. I was wondering if you could tell me how you got your fissure, what kind of pain you were in and is everything alright now? Any pain or incontinence? Thank you.
