Debating on whether or not to go with the fistulotomy..

Post a new topicby asansalo on Fri Nov 13, 2009 5:05 pm

Hi there, after first having a perianal abcess about 4 years ago (lance and drained, packed then healed)..I developed another abcess this time on the outside of my left buttock cheek...same deal..had to go to hospital..lanced and drained, packed it and it healed. Well, after visiting a Colon-Rectal surgeon for follow-up, have been diagonised with a fistula.

He said the my fistula seems simple, and that a fistulotomy should be no problem. However, I am so torn as some people have such positive experiences, and some people have had such negative ones.

I am wondering if I could get a few opinions on the positive versus negative to help me make my decision on whether or not to go through with this? (Is it better to just have the fistula keep filling up and getting I&D's, or does the fistulotomy truly cure all?)

Any helpful answers are appreciated!

Many thanks!
