Arch & Toe Foot Pain (cramping)

I'm looking for non-surgical solutions for my very painful arch & toe cramps. I avoid wearing narrow shoes but sometimes they do have a slight heel (no more than 1 inch). I don't necessarily have the pain when I'm wearing shoes, it's after I take them off and are barefoot or wearing slippers. If I move a certain way while walking, I get "twinges" of pain in my toes (sort of like hitting your funny bone). I also suffer from very painful combination arch/toe cramps. I woke up several times last night with arch/toe cramps and the only solution is to place my foot flat and try to relax the arch. I often have to get out of bed and stand on it to get the pain to stop. It can take anywhere from 10 seconds to a few minutes for it to stop and is obviously disrupting sleep. I find this condition worsens in the winter and has increased in severity as well as occurance in the last few years.

I take vitamin supplements in an effort to better my joints and circulation but that doesn't seem to help. If anyone has a solution, I would really appreciate all recommendations.

you might want to try orthotics from a podiatrist

Have you tried custom made orthotics for your feet? You can get these through a podiatrist. They can make them for athletic shoes and for dress shoes, you may have to wear 1/2 size bigger, but well worth it. Have them checked every 6 months and replaced at least once a year. Also cramping can be associated with your diet ... intake of potassium, if you like banannas, these are important. I have many issues with my feet, also .. if you can deep tissue massage with a good massage therapist or a good spa pedicure at least once a month. It really makes a difference.
