Foot Pain

Please help.....I have had pain at the ball of my feet (both) behind my big toe for over a year and a half. It feels like a bruise when I walk and it wakes me up at night feeling like it severely tightens up across the ball of my foot. It also feels swollen at that area and in between the first ball and second ball of my foot. X-rays, MRI blood tests for all types of inflammation all negative. What could this be?
Any advice or opinion would be greatly appreciated
