Do I trust my doctor?

I was diagnosed with gout a couple of months ago after having symptoms for a few years. My doctor, who apparently is a "pill" doctor, gave me allopurinal as a treatment course. After 30 days on the medicine he sent me for blood work, and found that the levels went up. Without hesitation , he stated that the medicine wasn't working and prescribed me Uloric. I have done some reading and found that Uloric is a new drug that may be worse to the body than allopurinal. I have also read that when starting any medicine designed to deal with gout, there can be an increase in serum uric acid levels when initially starting the course.

I do not like taking medicine in the first place, but the literature from the Uloric makes me nervous. Has anyone out there experienced the same jump in acid levels when you started the medicine?
