Feels like a string tied around my toe

I don't know what topic this falls under. It feels like a string is tied around my toe and it hurts really bad. It is a little red between my toes, but my toe itself is not red. I made an appt. to see my doctor tomorrow but this has me really baffled. Why would I have this type of pain?
