gout and red yeast ricei understand that one should avoid brewers yeast and baking yeast when one has gout. my question: is red yeast rice included in this exclusion? i also have moderate high colesterol which i control with 500mg of niacin and 600mg of red yeast rice per day. Once i started the red yeast rice i experienced my most severe case of gout it was also my 1st case in 2 years.Iam 52yrs. old and had my 1stattach 8 yrs.ago, with a total of 6 attacks. My uric acid count runs between 6and 7 over the last 8 yrs. My colestrol was at 260, 2 yrs. ago and now has been around 200. Thankyou, for your insight.
Re: gout and red yeast riceI would suggest that you speak to your doctor and find an alternative to method of contolling your high cholesterol. There are many excellent medications rather than taking red yeast rice to lower cholesterol. Although I do not believe it has ever been proven to cause gout, it sounds like the two may be associated.
