Gout18 months ago I was diagnosed with Haemochromotosis and have the joint swelling and pain. I have at times the most excruciating shooting pains up through my feet, in particular the r/foot up my leg and into my hip. A week ago 3/5/02, my blood tests were done as a regular monitoring of the iron levels and it was discovered that my uric levels are up, as is cholesterol. The pain in my feet has been worsening over the past 5-7 years. Do I have the symptoms of gout, as my GP suggests, or is the chronic pain the result of high iron levels. I am a saxon female, 51 years of age and had a hysterectomy in 1984. If this is pain in my joints is gout, how is it treated, along with the haemochromotosis?
thank you.
Re: GoutGout is an acute, sharp pain that affects a focal area and only last 1-2 weeks. Therefore, this is probably not the main problem. It sounds like you have a nerve condition. This could be anything from sciatica to tarsal tunnel syndrome. However, you need to see an orthopedist or podiatrist for a thorough examination and proper diagnosis.
