Gout/Diabetes

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Oct 31, 2001 4:09 am

Hi. I am 32y.o., I have had Diabetes Mellitus for the past 19 years, I am in quite good control and I am not overweight. Apart from Diabetes, I also have Raynaud's Disaese. I was recently diagnosed with Gout, which is causing extreme pain in the joint just below my big toe. I am at a loss to find a cause - could it be caused through my Diabetes? or Raynauds? I am a relatively healthy person and eat lots of fresh fruit/vegies, I do have the occaisonal alcoholic beverage (less than 1glass a week on average). I was just looking for some explanation-Cheers Belinda

Gout is thought to be triggered sometimes if your sugars are too hogh. If they are stable, you may just be prone to high uric acid levels which are the real cause of gout. Gout can be treated with medicine that will make the pain go away very quickly. Therefore, you should be taking a acute gout medication if you are not already. If you start to get more gout attacks in the future, there are other medicines to keep your uric acid level lower and prevent gout attacks. Have a nice day and please write back if you have any further questions.
