Great Toe PainI'm a 28 year old female and a little over a year ago, I fell and slammed my big toe on a metal bar. It's bothered me since then on and off but recently it's been really bad again. Sometimes it's so painful I can't sleep or walk on it. It gets very swollen with a "red band" accross the middle of my toe and sometimes looks bluish. A doctor said it "almost" appeared to be Gout, but he doesn't think so. He put me on the 6 day pack of methoprednisolone which helped the immediate pain to lessen, but only briefly. I am having arthritis type pain in other parts of my body, but this is the most severe. My doctor is sending me for an MRI of the toe. Any idea what this sounds like or what types of things the MRI can diagnose? Thanks so much!
Re: Great Toe PainAn MRI is a very good exam and should tell you what structures are damaged. The one time it may not be as good is if a nerve is damaged in such a small area. The changing colors concerns me slightly and it may be what is known as RSD which you can read more about under the conditions section of podiatrychannel.com. Once the results of the MRI come back, you will have a much better idea of what is damaged.
