Raised 2nd toe due to gout?

I have had recurring gout episodes about 2 years now have a serious problem my 2nd toe (from big toe)--following a gout episode last June 2000 my 2nd toe has remained in an upraised position. It appears it is permanently frozen in position. I have sought medical help doctors do not believe is a result of gout. condition is extremely painful. Can please advise?
