Already had hammertoe corrective surgery but...

Post a new topicby Guest on Fri Jul 12, 2002 2:19 pm

I had toe surgery approximately 6 years ago and the toe that I had corrected is now crooked and the top part of the toe sits on top of the toe next to it. Is this normal? If not, what would cause this to happen after the surgery? Should I consult a podiatrist to have the toe straightened? It's not very attractive and I don't like to wear open toe shoes because of it.

It sounds like you may have a bunion or hammertoe. You should see a podiatrist to have it properly diagnosed and treated. It can be straightened so you do not have to be embarrassed about wearing open toe shoes. I do not know what surgery they did in the past so I cannot say if this could have caused the problem you now have. Have a nice day and please write back if you have any further questions.

when you have the hammertoe surgery which toe was it and was a temp pin put in and removed? which toe is it now on top of. I ask because i had what i thought was to be a hammertoe surgery correction on the 2nd toe left foot and it is getting really close to the big toe but because the dr. left a permanent pin in which i did not want, the plan was for ther temp pin he changed plans right before surgery and i was too nervous to ask all the right questions. I have excruiating pain whenever i wear closed in shoes which i like and have to pad the toe really well each time, what a drag.

i wonder if the pin is keeping the toe from growin on top of the big toe but i do know i hate i have to live with this pin. I also have to be so careful at all times because i hit that toe once and the pain of the pin being hit was unbelievable and last for a month or more.
