Arthroplasty

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jun 03, 2001 12:12 pm

Dear Dr., I am scheduled surgery next week on fifth toe of my left foot. I am concerned about having surgery as I am concerned it is unnecessary. I have a callus on my 5th toe Dr. thinks he may have to cut tendon in order to flatten toe. Is normal procedure or am I taking an unnecessary risk? Please let me know soon if is really a long lasting procedure if I should do it. Thank r help. Sincerely, Cynthia

It is a normal procedure and relatively simple to perform. Whether it is necessary or not is up to you. It is obviously not a life-threatening condition. The question is whether you can live with the corn or if it bothers you enough to have surgery. Many people decide they do not want to bother with it for the rest of their lives and have the surgery. However, if you are apprehensive about it, you may want to delay. Good luck and please write back if you have any further questions.
