Hammer toe with painful swelling

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon May 13, 2002 2:19 am

My husbands second toe looks like a hammer toe. For no apparent reason it becomes incredibly painful. Overnight the ball of the foot,in line with the hammertoe appears to have become swollen as well as the toe and top part of the foot and is painful to touch. Can you please tell me what can be done. Or do these symptoms sound like gout or something else. He seems to have reoccurrences about every six months that lasts for about 4 - 6 days.

Thanking you for your assistance

He probably is having a gout attack. He needs to see his primary care physician or a podiatrist so he can be properly diagnosed and given medicine to ease his pain.
