hammertoe

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon Jun 25, 2001 5:32 pm

I have read the questions but don't see a response so sorry for the repetition. I am 52 and the 3rd toe on the right foot is developing a hammertoe I have bought shoes with more toe room because I think that's what is causing it. I have been daily massaging it at the same time as working on its flexibility. Will this reverse the process?
Thanks

Unless the third toe is excessively long, the shoe gear was probably not causing the hammertoe directly. The tighter shoes may have irritated the hammertoe more, but a muscle imbalance probably is causing the hammertoe. Muscle imbalances occur for a lot of reasons, but the most common is because a person's arch flattens as they get older. This causes the muscles in the foot to change their direction of pull which leads to imbalances. You made need orthotics to give your feet better support. Therefore, make an appointment with your local podiatrist so you can have a thorough foot examination where all of your questions and concerns can be answered. We apologize that you were not able to find your answer.
